So here we are. MIPIM. The place where the real hard work begins. The Aedas Cycle to Cannes this year was definitely one of the best that I have taken part in. Perhaps that has something to do with sitting out four of the stages, or perhaps being given the power of being a team captain, although if I never have to shout "keep right" again it'll still be too soon.
One final Bedroom Diary for you.
So, day five on the Aedas Cycle to Cannes and Lil and I decided to do the whole lot - a mere 240km and around 8800ft of climbing. It was glorious though. A bit on the windy side, which was great when it was behind us and we were powering along at 50kph, not so good when it was a cross wind and I felt like I was about to be swept off the road.
Day five of the C2C is most definitely the most scenic. It has to be cycled to be fully enjoyed. The vistas on the climbs and descents are just glorious. There are plenty of pics on the Cycle to Cannes stream on www.flickr.com if you want a taste of just how great this ride is.
Once again it is late while I write this as dinner tonight involved a little award ceremony for standout riders - most committed, most gels consumed, best taxi service etc - and the well deserved thank yous for all of the support we get along the way, from both the UK team and our amazing French outriders.
Just one more day to go and while Lil and I are a little on the pooped side - as you'll see from today's video - we don't really want it to be over. Still, the trip from Aix en Provence to Cannes is not an easy one - 600m to climb first thing. Yowsers.
Better get some sleep so these legs still have something to give.
You sit back and enjoy episode five of The Bedroom Diaries.
A very hilly day today to get us to Valence and it gets even hillier
tomorrow, which is fine with me. Very enjoyable climbs, taking it steady
and helping out those that need it.
Just four of the six stages today but still 200km in the bag. Sat out
leg three and six. Happy to sit out six as it started raining!
Now sat writing this blog as I wait for steak supper. Perhaps also sipping on a glass of vino. Well it is France!
Too tired to write anymore. Why not watch instead?
So, day three on the Aedas Cycle to Cannes 2012 and after 230kms in the saddle delirium appears to have returned. It's not quite to the level of when we were doing every single km last year, but it is edging towards it.
The sun appeared for around 10 mins today as we weaved our way through the champagne region to Dijon. Quite a few hills climbed but many many more to come.
Team Savills - led by Lil, myself and Claire - is doing well and keeping the Savills name in good stead, which has to be worthy of bubbles rather than beer when we arrive in Cannes on Tuesday.
Strangely feeling much more tired not doing the whole thing than I did doing the whole thing. Perhaps because the body just goes into autopilot when you are on the mission that is cycling 1500km!
Talking of tired, I'm pooped. Lil is already asleep. Out like a light.
We did of course manage a Bedroom Diary.
Enjoy!
Day two of Aedas Cycle to Cannes is always the longest day. For those that did the whole thing, the days started at 6am and finished at around 8.45pm as we rolled into Reims.
It has been quite an eventful day for the Diarists today as you shall see from the video. There have been forgotten shoes, rubbed holes (might need to rephrase that), dodgy dancing and tired legs.
But don't you worry about that. You just sit back and enjoy episode two of the now Emmy award-winning* Bedroom Diaries...
