Gloucester has its so called 'maganificent seven' regeneration projects and is in the enviable position of actually receiving some of SWRDA's diminished pot of cash over the next two years. In my piece I look at how this money might be spent to keep the plans alive.
The market is also buoyed by the opening of Designer Outlet Gloucester Quays earlier this year. It's not fully let - few would expect that during a recession - but its pull is already having an impact on car parking revenue in the city. (See pictures of the centre below).
In Hereford there is the 100 acre Edgar Street Grid, another long term and challenging project which is also fighting the storm of recession. Melanie Smith looks at progress on the first stage which involves building 392,000 sq ft of retail. The developer Stanhope, she discovers, not suprisingly does have a plan B.
As does St Modwen at its 476 acre Long Marston site in Warwickshire. Daniel Cunningham weighs up the different proposals.
And the final port of call is Worcestershire which has recessionary challenges of a slightly different nature. For Worcester it is not so much a case of how and when for development but who will take the space that is already built.
