Tuesday night was the EG awards and judging by the bleary eyes and croaky voices I witnessed the next morning the dour times in the market weren't stopping the industry having fun..
Bafta-nominated Rob Brydon of Gavin and Stacey fame, was celebrity host for the awards and guided proceedings at the plush Grosvenor House hotel with a good dose of Welsh humour, the odd property-related quip (his agents tells us he has been reading EG on the tour bus!) and, of course, the obligatory sheep joke.
Few mishaps have been reported back, save a fire at one of the tables as one of the sponsor's BNP Paribas RE balloons caught in the flames of a lit candelabras.
As I was leaving I spotted the London head of a large German bank slapping down $600 worth of "fun" money at the charity casino. Now we haven't seen the bankers splashing the cash for a while - maybe it's a sign of things to come.,,.,
