Welsh Assembly Government calls for more powers

| No Comments | No TrackBacks
2988757625_a8ebd88b11.JPGA report commissioned by the All Wales Convention (there's a clue in the title) has found that 47% would vote 'yes' in a referendum on whether Wales should have full law making powers (full story can be found here).

Not exactly a surprise. The AWC was established by the Welsh Assembly Government as part of the coalition deal between Labour and Plaid Cymru in 2007.

Currently law making powers are being transferred step by step from Westminster to WAG but the referendum, if supported, would call for all law making powers to be transferred all at once.

At the moment laws can be made in certain areas of WAG's responsibility but have to be approved by the UK Parliament.

A full transfer of powers would mean laws affecting Wales being made locally.

So what do people think? Should the Welsh Assembly Government have full law making powers?
