The company, which has already rebranded Belfast (a big B shaped like a heart) and Dubai's financial district (an abstract diamond) are expected to come up with something funky for Plymouth.
Local folk remain deeply sceptical. Vigorous debate on one local newspaper website suggested that a track-suited chav might be a more suitable symbol of the city than the inevitable ship or breaking wave.
Slogans suggested by Plymptonians included: "Plymouth - helping police with their enquiries" and "Plymouth - it's not big and it's not clever."
