Dessert engineering

The United Kingdom has always been famous for its great engineering projects; Stephenson's lighthouse at Bell Rock, Bazelgatte's London sewage System, Brunel's Great Western Railway to name but a few. In a testament to this great tradition, and also in honour of more modern engineering projects, teams of London's best and brightest will be involved in a competition to build gigantic structures...out of cake. Arup, the company who created the eponymous Gherkin will be recreating the tower in sponge, to the size of a two-story house; along with Expedition Engineering, Buro Happold, and the Young Structural Engineers team, who will be using cupcakes and chocolate pillars. The cakes will be fed to crowds at Battersea Park this Sunday.

It has not yet been revealed where the teams are planning to source an oven big enough to bake these monster creations. See the story here.
