The Royal Descent

Yet more excitement at the Shard on Monday, as the Duke of York joined a group of around forty others in abseiling down sixty seven floors of the tower. Pretty crazy I know, but it was all for a good cause; money raised will go to the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund and the Outward Bound Trust, the latter of which the Prince is the chairman of.

The Duke was warned of condensation on the upper floors before he stepped out, which consequently resulted in him sliding down them. However, he eventually completed the feat in around an hour.

The Outward Bound Trust aims to unlock the potential in young people through exploring wild places, whilst the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund aims to support serving and retired Royal Marines and their dependants.

If you're scared of heights, I suggest you look away now, but otherwise click here to watch a video of the abseil and to hear more thoughts from the Duke himself.

Maybe the Queen could join James Bond and do this for her next adventure?!
