Below are some CGIs of 3 major schemes (with the actual site inset). They're all in the same borough, all in the same postcode, all over 35 storeys, all less than half a mile apart and were all hoping to gain consent at the same Tower Hamlets Strategic Development Committee this Thursday. However, according to the Wharf website it looks like the meeting is not going ahead due to concerns over traffic and protester disruption as a result of the G20 summit. Next date looks like Wednesday April 15th.

Seems like everybody's at it, this time it's Ken Shuttleworth's MAKE Architects with the Battersea gasholders redevelopment.

Battersea Gasomiter Now.JPGNot quite the same as the King's Cross scheme, because the original gasholders are being knocked down, but what the architects are planning for this National Grid owned site has a more than passing resemblance to what's there at the moment:

This development is part of the larger Nine Elms regeneration masterplan which will include Battersea Power Station and the new US Embassy. National Grid intends to submit a planning application in the secomd half of 2009.

Back in 2007 I blogged about the redevelopment of the King's Cross gasholders and how they were to be incorporated into the residential element, i.e. they were going to stick some flats inside them. This is not a new idea, architects O'Mahony Pike have already done it with a similar development in Dublin. But Wilkinson Eyre are going one better (or should that be two better) by putting flats in three gasholders. In 2007 I couldn't find any pictures but now thanks to some nifty CGI by the architects the development will look something like this...

Big Piles

The Pinnacle.jpg

Bachy Soletanche  has just started the piling works for The Pinnacle/Helter Skelter in the City. Normally that wouldn't be much of a story but these are no ordinary piles, these are record breaking piles. At over 210 feet deep they will be the longest piles in the UK and to give you an idea of just how big that is each pile will require 13 hours of continuous concrete pour...and there are 60 of them.
