This is The Oasis Tower One condominium in southwest Florida, a development that would be utterly unremarkable were it not for the Vangelakos family who live on the 11th floor.

The family from New Jersey bought their flat 4 years ago, off-plan in the middle of the housing boom, as did many others. However, when the bubble burst, the majority of the tenants walked away, sacrificing their deposit rather than buying the units and risk falling into negative equity. All the others who did complete transferred to another building owned by the same developer, all apart from the Vangelakos family. They are the only people in this 23 storey, 200 unit building. Bereft of neighbours the closest they get to human interaction is the automated voice in the lift.
