Below is what London & Quadrant and Yoo Capital have in store for Walthamstow's Greyhound Stadium. Almost 500 new homes are planned, around half of which will be affordable.

However, "local" campaigners including David Beckham, Teddy Sheringham and Ray "The Daddy" Winstone oppose the demolition of the stadium, hoping that it would become "bigger and better" than before. Problem is that it's been closed for a while, and, as one of our researchers can testify, even on the penultimate meet before closure, the "crowds" were fairly thin on the ground.

Why would anyone want to live by a great big roundabout? It's sad, I've had some good nights at the ol' dog track. Plus it wasn't the only casualty from the closure...what about Charlie Chan's! Ha!
Hi essexbird
Over half of the development will be affordable and I suspect around 70% of those will be for the rental market, so no prizes for guessing where those units will go. As for Charlie Chan's, a sad loss indeed, despite some totally unfounded allegations that the kitchen was the final resting place for those dogs who didn’t quite make it to the finish line.
I just read that David Beckham was flown to Finland on Monday for surgery on an Achilles tendon injury. I hope not that this could end his playing career.
Awful news about David Beckham. Hope he has a quick return to full fitness.
