200ft drop for cash

Bruntwood abseil.jpgWhen I heard about a trio of property folk (and a lady from the Prince's Trust) throwing themselves off of the side of a 200ft building in Birmingham you can imagine my concern. I know the theme for the recent BRENDA Awards was "I'm in Property Get Me Out of Here!" , but this seemed to be going a bit far.

So, I was relieved to hear that the fearless foursome in question were not looking to end it all in the face of the ongoing global economic crisis, no they were doing it to raise some much needed cash for the Prince's Trust. Phew!

Congratulations to Bruntwood's Rob Valentine, GBR Property's John Griffiths, Ortus Group's Colin White and the Prince's Trust's Sonya Butterfield (pictured above), who recently abseiled from Birmingham's McLaren Building's 20th floor. Organised by Mclaren's owner, Bruntwood, the abseil has raised around £5,000.

I caught up with Griffiths after his descent when he was still recovering from the event. He admitted: "It was very high up there, I'm not too proud to say I was a little nervous. I was very glad to be wearing my brown trousers!" Perhaps a little too much information there John...

On a more serious note, the money raised from the Bruntwood Abseil will help the Prince's Trust to ensure that it can support over 14,000 vulnerable young people, which is more than one in 10 of Birmingham's 18-24 year olds.

Bruntwood has chosen The Prince's Trust to be its West Midland's charity for 2010 and is now in the process of organising a series of awareness and fund-raising events. So if anyone else feels like jumping off the side of a building or even playing a round of golf, just give Rob Valentine a call...
