So it is now less than two weeks before 85 intrepid cyclists don their padded Lycra leggings and begin the 1,500km ride to Cannes. And I for one am getting just a little bit excited – especially as I have just pimped up my bike!
For those of you wanting to support the riders, we will be gathering at the Pavilion Tea House (www.pavilionteahouse.co.uk) in Greenwich Park from 7.30am on Thursday 11 March, preparing for departure at 9am. For those of you looking to support the riders in a different way, there is still plenty of time to make a donation on the C2C charity website www.bmycharity.com/V2/cycle2cannes2010
C2C is hoping to raise more than £200,000 for property industry charity LandAid, Linklaters charitable trust Tom’s Trust, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, the Sarah Matheson Trust and Article 25.
Rider numbers are up by 40% on last year, and perhaps surprisingly, the number of riders registering for entrance to Mipim are three times greater than 2008. Could this mean the recession is really over – for the road-loving pedallers at least?
And for those of you using a more traditional mode of transport to get to Cannes, please come and greet us on the Croisette at 3.30pm on Tuesday 16 March. We’ll be the ones heading straight to the Savills cafe on Croisette Corner (diagonally opposite the Majestic) for a well-earned beer (or two).
