Hackney happier with media centre 'legacy'

julespipe.jpgA quick one here to suggest that any one looking for a full, up-to-date description of where plans for the media centre currently heading should go to this useful recent posting on Hackney council's website.

It seems that Mayor Jules Pipe (pictured) is comfortable at present with the commitment within the design to a building capable of creating a creative industries hub post-Games. And that has to be good news for all the local residents fearful that the structure will be almost entirely demolished after the event.

Here's what he has to say: "After the Games, the facilities will create just under 900,000 square feet of business space with the potential to generate thousands of new jobs. We are pleased improvements have been made to the design of the IBC which enables the building to be more flexible for its legacy use.

"We welcome the ongoing commitment to refining the MPC design and finish to ensure a building of quality that can become the home for creative industries in legacy. We must now ensure the employment legacy vital to Hackney and East London is achieved and we will continue to work closely with our partners to secure this for all our residents."

As I have written before, the next major step is set to be October when the new Olympic Legacy Vehicle visits the site alongside the East London Business Alliance and the LDA to discuss, partly, the likelihood of tenants moving there. Currently it remains all quiet on that front.
