No great surprise to see Tessa Jowell using her platform at the Labour Party Conference to laud current progress on preparing for the 2012 Olympic Games - there's not much else for Labour to get excited about after all.
There's no question that the entire project is being brought forward at a pace and has brought investment and jobs to a poor part of the country in the midst of hard times, and only the terminally cynical would criticise that.
When it comes to the all important Legacy development of east London however the government has I think been disconcertingly quiet in recent weeks.
Of course that is in part down to a natural lull before the Olympic Park Legacy Vehicle launches (we are told this week). Expect a lot of coverage of the vehicle and its plans next week in the press, and of course here
But there's also the sneaky feeling that next week's Tory Conference in Manchester is where to go to hear the most significant views about what government's role in the project should be after the Games. It is my understanding that they are increasingly of the view that London's Mayor should be the pre-eminent voice when it comes to Legacy development. It will be interesting to see how they would attempt to ensure this happens.
